More bad news

I cannot believe I have to write this. Last night I received word that one of my sisters has endometrial cancer. She is scheduled for surgery and then will find out about any radiation that might be needed. She is pretty much in shock at this news. I know exactly what she is feeling. My other sister’s cancer was caught before it had spread and she did not require chemo; same for my mother. How ironic that I was always so happy that none of us had had to deal with breast cancer. Little did I know what was to come. For once I am glad I don’t have daughters.

Tests

Good news. Latest test (CA-125) was in the low normal range. Not zero, but close. I have one more chemo in the series so it could go down even more. I’m not out of the woods by any means. Tests every 3 months, CT scans, listening to my body for anything not quite right.

Last chemo is going to be harder, I’m told. More nausea and fatigue are possible with the change in one of the drugs. I can deal. Knowing that I can start growing hair on my head keeps me up!

On the gardening front, ¬†practically all my plants have vanished these past five months. No veggies. I think all my fruit trees that are not planted in the ground are dead or dying. I’m expecting to have enough energy to get ready for Fall about mid- to late October. Another chance to grow fall/winter greens and some flowers, I hope.

Five out of six

Today I had my fifth chemotherapy session.

I started a new-to-me book called, “Soprano Sorceress” by L.E. Modesitt, Jr. This is the first book of the Spellsong Cycle. In this fantasy Anna, a divorced, non-tenured, soprano singer was in the wrong place at the wrong time or right place at the right time depending on what happens when she is conjured by singing sorceress in another world (dimension?). Erde is an earth-like planet with big problems. A fight between darksongs and clearsongs is threatening to cause chaos on Erde by controlling the weather and thus food supply (among other dire possibilities, I’m sure.)

I’m not very far into the book, but Anna is a very appealing character, smart and spunky and fast on her feet–a very good quality given she is a songmaster, whether she wants to be or not.

The book kept me involved and not thinking about where I was. Good deal all around.

Walking

Just a quick note. It felt so good to walk again. I taped up my feet and headed out. I just had to try and hope that I didn’t get blisters. I think I may be able to continue. Huzzah!
